Brazilian Pantanal Bandana

This passion project is inspired by the amazing biodiversity I saw in the Pantanal, the world’s largest tropical wetland and flooded grassland

I went on the trip of a lifetime with my sister to the Brazilian Pantanal. We were part of an environmental group with a focus on birds and wildlife. The trip was a feast for the eyes, and I learned so much from our guides.

I saw avid birdwatchers wearing bandanas around their necks to keep the binocular straps from rubbing their skin. So I decided to honor the trip with a bandana of my own design featuring the wildlife we saw.

After designing the layout, I carved it out of linoleum and then printed it onto fabrics of different colors. I finished the edges on a sewing machine.

The center of the design has caymans, and each corner features a different group of Pantanal animals. I saw them all in real life!
