Downtown Indy Risograph

Risograph is a super cool printing method that I learned about during an artist residency. There are bright semi-opaque inks that layer together and create new colors where they overlap.

I wanted to combine my skills with linoleum carving and see how it would translate to risograph ink. I carved two layers in 12”x12” linoleum, printed them in black ink, then digitized each layer to print on the risograph machine.

On my very first attempt, I picked the lucky combination of hot pink first and teal second, which magically created a beautiful purple where the inks overlapped. Beginner’s luck to be sure!

It turned out really well and was a fun illustration process to show my Magical Realism approach to Indianapolis (can you see a basketball hoop on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument?)
