Percussive Arts Society

Client: Percussive Arts Society
Service: Illustrations

The annual PASIC conference sports energetic swag celebrating the dynamism of percussion instruments and their talented performers. They tasked me with making the 2026 design stand out from years past.

Setting the Mood

The goals for this project included:

  • Design a key illustration for use on a drumhead cover, tshirt, and stickers

  • Create a design that stands out from previous years of the PASIC illustration

With these parameters in mind, I focused on ways to evoke energy and movement. This mood board shows the overall direction.

Next step: designing!

the heart of the project:

Capture the energy, diversity, and joy of the percussion community

Design Concepts

The Client requested thumbnail sketches, so I showed them in the first round of design. They picked their favorite to refine.

The top right was selected, and the next round led to incorporating the letters PASIC into the design.

Revisions

Through the revision process, the design became more layered with meaning while maintaining the original blend of abstraction and representational (real world) imagery. You can see the color palette that was picked and different ways I explored applying it to the design.

Final Result

This is the final illustration that will appear on shirts and the souvenir drumhead cover. Check out the PASIC conference in November!
